PCC Insider Success Story:

Co-Hosted by: San Diego, Inland Empire, Bakersfield, Sierra Coastal, Puget Sound, and Greater Spokane.

On Wednesday, March 19, 2025, the San Diego and Inland Empire Postal Customer Council hosted a live webinar focused on Artificial Intelligence and Direct Mail. The event featured keynote speakers: Chief Marketing Officer Elly Chichester, Principal and Account Executive Jill Straub, and VP of Information Services Paul Galligan. Coordinating the event were Postal Administrator CRC Jae Lunario and BLDS’s, Sarah Oney-Williams. We also partnered with chapters from Bakersfield, Sierra Coastal, Puget Sound, and Greater Spokane PCC to promote the event and reach a wider audience of PCC members.
The presentation began with an exploration of the current state of AI, including its ability to read brain scans and recreate images a person has seen. AI’s capabilities were highlighted, such as its ability to see, drive, write, create images, and compose music.
The speakers then examined the impact of AI on marketing, with a focus on its potential for direct mail. They shared insights on using AI to create personalized images and content for specific audiences, emphasizing the importance of customized, data-driven communication. They discussed the endless possibilities for engagement and the evolving nature of AI.
The discussion addressed the rapidly changing landscape of AI, providing examples of how businesses can enhance direct mail responses. They demonstrated how to create a traditional mail file with personalized data to achieve a 1on 1, data-driven direct mail strategy to specific businesses.
Another key topic was AI’s role in improving response rates and working with USPS. The speakers covered how AI can be leveraged for list processing, incorporating QR codes, and enhancing USPS promotions. They also touched on how AI could enhance USPS services like Continuous Contact and Informed Delivery.
Finally, the speakers tackled the common fear surrounding AI—the anxiety about job displacement, complexity, and the unknown. They reassured attendees that AI is not about replacing jobs but about helping industries leverage technology to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and streamline operations.
The webinar concluded with a Q&A session, where attendees had the chance to ask questions. We expressed our gratitude to the speakers and collaborating PCC chapters for making the event a success, with 47 attendees participating.
